AVGU Annual Meeting

 

Delegates representing the 8 member States and Territories met in Darwin on Sunday 3rd June. Keith Spry (Queensland) was elected President and Mal Powell (NT) Vice President for the next two years. Graham Manning (Tas) was appointed Secretary/Treasurer and Jeff McAllister was elected SA Delegate to succeed current Delegate and President Ray Jennison. Alan Jones was elected Tasmanian Delegate .

 

 

Future National Championships will be played in Adelaide in 2008 on Oct 12-17th . In 2009 the event will be held in Cairns, 2010 at Port Macquarie NSW and 2011 in Hobart.

Presentations were made by the President to long serving WA Delegate and former President Duggan Anderson and to Malcolm Macpherson retiring Secretary/Treasurer after 11 years.

National Championship

 

586 Veterans and partners ventured to Darwin for the National Championship played over 54 holes. There were 16 from ACT,135 NSW, 61 NT, 119 Q, 36 TAS, 26 SA, 77 Vic and 116 from WA.

 

 
 

Victorian Richard Froebel from Cranbourne Golf Club defeated Peter Richarrdson on the first playoff hole to win the title. The playoff was necessary after both carded 54 hole totals of 232.

Left is a proud Richard with AVGU President Ray Jennison Western Australia’s Brian Drake won the 54 hole nett title with a very good score of 214. Brian at right with the coveted trophy Lyn Helmers (NSW) won the Ladies A division and Christine Edwards won the B Division.

A wind up Presentation Dinner under the stars at Darwin Golf Club completed a great week of golf and social activity.
