VETERANS AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP HOBART
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AVGU HOBART OCT 23

 

The meeting was held prior to the AVGU Championship chaired by retiring President Mal Powell who completed his two year term.

  • Mike Greep (ACT) was elected as President for the following two years; and

  • Dick Farrant (NSW) was elected as Vice President for the same period.

  • Graeme Manning (Tasmania) was re-elected as AVGU Secretary/Treasurer.

The delegates to the AVGU for the ensuing twelve months are;

RESULTS OF AVGU CHAMPIONSHIP

The Championship, for the second year in a row, was decided by a sudden death playoff after 54 holes of strokeplay. Both Geoff Dodge (Iron Pot Tas.) and Col Probert (Kogarah NSW) were tied on 237. Geoff won the playoff when he parred the 18th hole at Tasmania Golf Club to win the Championship. Third on 242 was Denis Gorman (Wollongong NSW). The A grade net went to David Burns (Caliope Q.) with 217 on a countback from David Bliss (Claremont Tas.).

Courses Used: North West Bay, Claremont and Tasmania

Number of starters: 316 ( 252 men and 64 women)

Representation per State/Territory: WA 81, NSW 60, Qld 56, Tas 50, Vic 28, SA 17, NT 12, ACT 12.

 

 

2012 AVGU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

 

The most important and biggest event on the Veteran Golfers calendar in 2012 is coming to the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Known as "Australia's Number One Golf Destination" the Mornington Peninsula is home to 20 golf courses, almost half of which are rated in the Top 100 in Australia.

This prestigious event is proudly sponsored by the Regis Group who own and operate 46 aged care facilities around the country, and is hosted by the Mornington Peninsula Veteran Golfers Association under the auspices of the Australian Veteran Golfers Union. The tournament will be conducted from 11th to 16th November 2012, the event will be played on four wonderful golf courses, Rosebud Country Club, The Dunes, the Legends Course at Moonah Links, and the Ocean Course at The National Golf Club, the latter three are all rated well inside Australia's Top 50 and these will be the venues for the 54 hole Stroke Championship as well as the Ladies 54 hole Stableford event.

Men: 1st Round 54 hole Championship played in 3 divisions at The Dunes Golf links, The Legends Course at Moonah Links and The Ocean Course at The National Golf Club.

Ladies: Single Stableford in 2 divisions at the 3 courses. 1st round of 54 hole event.

Wednesday 14 November

Thursday 15 November
Men: 2nd Round of 54 Hole Championship at the 3 courses.

Ladies: Single Stableford in 2 divisions at the 3 courses. 2nd round of 54 hole event.

Men: Final round of the 54 Hole Championship at the 3 courses.

Ladies: Single Stableford in 2 divisions at the 3 courses. Final round of 54 hole event.
